Where Uptown Found Its Skate Shop
BOOKS SkateShop opened in 2015 after years of sessioning cracked uptown sidewalks and dark playground ledges with nowhere local to grab real gear. We wanted a core shop where skaters could talk shapes, not sales numbers. That idea turned into a small room stacked with decks, grip dust on the floor, and locals posted up watching parts, a home base for Washington Heights skaters.
Run By People Who Actually Skate
Everyone running BOOKS actually skates. We know how a truck feels locking on a handrail and how fast soft wheels chunk on rough pavement. That is what shapes what we carry and how we talk to you. We give straight answers, help parents dodge trash completes, and make sure every setup leaving the shop is ready for real street abuse.
Where The Skate Scene Meets
Over time the shop turned into a meeting spot. Kids roll through after school, older heads trade stories, and we throw video premieres that pack the room. We keep private appointments for anyone who wants quiet time to sort gear, and we use every sale to keep local events, youth support, and new drops moving. When BOOKS grows, the scene grows with it.
